The Life and Times of an Indian Homemaker – The Women at Forty Project is fascinated by the lives of women all over the world. We recently came across this site while surfing the web. The author blogs about the “everyday life of an urban Indian homemaker and her reactions to what’s happening in the world around her.” She speaks out against violence and intolerance, and against the use of tradition, culture and religion to justify certain behaviors. Read more about this fascinating homemaker from India on her blog, The Life and Times of an Indian Homemaker.

The Gluten-Free Goddess – While not all of us have gluten and wheat allergies, as we get closer to 40, many of us are experiencing some, let’s say, new digestive sensations. Once able to tolerate gluten and dairy, I now find that eating either has me feeling crummy all day. Her recipes are also vegan for those pursuing a completely animal free diet.

Kayak’s been around for years, and if you’re planning the perfect 40th birthday getaway, Kayak’s a great site to use to consolidate your search efforts. The site allows you to compare results from major sites like Orbitz, Expedia and Hotwire for air, cruises, rental cars and more. Best of all, it’s all free.

The Aging Suite – We’re getting older, and if we’re fortunate enough to still have our parents with us, many of us are now their caregivers. The Aging Suite is a website dedicated to providing information for caregivers and seniors that help seniors remain living safely at home longer. The site provides tips and solutions on topics ranging from inexpensive household modifications that can help prevent falls to simple lifestyle changes that help ease the pain of arthritis.

We’re starting a new feature this week. It’s our Friday Finds and it spotlights stuff we like. From fellow women bloggers, to great deals, books and businesses, every Friday tune in to Women at Forty to discover our latest finds. Take notes, this is the stuff we like this week…

Heifer International – We’ve been long time fans and supporters of this unique organization which empowers women, families and communities around the world. They give families a hand-up by providing gifts of livestock and training. Heifer’s catalog allows you to choose gifts of livestock, flocks of geese or even trees. A little known fact – Heifer also supports needy families and communities right here in the states. To learn more about Heifer International, visit them at www.heifer.org.

Make Under my Life – Great site by a Chicagoan named Jess. She’s a jewelry designer going through a life makeunder. What’s a makeunder? In her own words “I use this term to describe any action that improves one’s life through addition by subtraction. For example, every Friday I get rid of something that I don’t need, use, or love anymore.” I’ve always liked the idea of addition by subtraction and really gravitate toward the concept of choosing one day each week to do it. Check out Jess’ site at www.makeundermylife.com.

Groupon – Groupon is a collective bargaining group that provides deep discounts on everything from Honey Baked Ham to helicopter rides. Each day they feature a deal at an “unbeatable price.” The deal is emailed to you and if you get in on it before it’s sold out, you’ve got yourself, well, a deal. Last week in Atlanta, it was a complete dental visit and cleaning for $49. Today, it’s a helicopter Tour for $40. Deals differ by city, so visit www.groupon.com, select your city and see what deals are in store for you.
