Why Demi Moore’s bikini pics made me sad – and it’s not what you think

Demi Moore Bikini shot I know I’m way late, but why is 47 year old Demi Moore posting bikini pictures of herself on Twitter – again? And why is she dancing on stage with Snoop Doggy Dog? Side note – why is this 39-year-old man still calling himself Snoop Doggy Dogg and wearing a press and curl? But I digress. This post is about Demi Moore and why this talented woman still seems to need the affirmations of an adoring public.

My usual reaction when hearing that yet another teen or 20-something wanna-be D-lister has posted risque’ pics on Twitter or “accidentally” released a home-made porn, is to SMH and move on. It’s the age we live in and unfortunately this generation of young women seem to equate social media nakedness and sexuality with ultimate power. But wait. Demi Moore is from our generation. And she’s an A-list celebrity married to another A-list celebrity. So when I heard/saw that Demi Moore was once again jumping on the nakedness bandwagon I felt sad. The best of: What’s sexy…

man-cooking With the exception of the day our story ran on CNN.com, the “So, what’s sexy” post drew the most traffic to the website. Ever. While the title had something to do with it, I have a sneaking submission that the majority of site hits came from women (of all ages) with the solitary mission of staring intently at Alex O’Loughlin’s absDisclaimer: I have to admit that even today when I look at that picture, my eyes glaze over and I think “that is just absolutely ridiculous” (in a good way) — And while the devil on my shoulder (intent on helping me increase site traffic) toyed with the idea of including the words “Alex O’Loughlin, abs and sexy” in each and every future post, the mature, 40-year-old woman in me realized that that just wouldn’t be sexy.

So, what is sexy – besides the abs of course? Confidence, a man with a great voice, romance, intelligence… Here’s some of what Women at Forty find sexy…

Relationship 2.0 buzz – On dating, sexiness and motherhood

Friends working together We’ve rounded up a few of the comments from the website and Facebook, and here’s what women at forty are saying, and asking, about dating, sexiness and motherhood…

On dating:

OK, so is there a thin line between just friends and dating line at 40? Did it move from when we were in our 20s or 30s? There is this older guy who I enjoy spending time with – dinner, movies, chatting on the phone, etc. He insists that we’re not dating, but he won’t let 24 hours go by without “checking” in. Before you even ask, yes he’s the only guy that I’m spending time with (other guy friends don’t get 10% face time – mostly chat/email or cell buddies) and he says that he could never handle more than one female friend at a time. So back to what started this – just what crosses the line between just friends and dating?

So, what’s sexy?

The Back-up Plan Remember the high top fade and its edgier cousin the gumby? Well, if you were fans of Kid ‘n Play and Bobby Brown, pre- “Bobbaaaay?!!” then you know exactly what we’re talking about. They were the haircuts sported by some young men back in the 80’s and 90’s, and they were sexy.  At least we thought so.

How times have changed and thankfully so have our tastes. What we found sexy at 16, 21 and even 30, probably isn’t what we find sexy at 40. So we asked, what do you find sexy in a man? Just so you know, that hip area, just below the six pack abs and right above the ehem…(modeled perfectly here by The Backup Plan’s Alex O’Loughlin) is what we find sexy. Here’s some of what you had to say…
